Fougère
One of our favorite stops.
Bolee et Galettes - Lunch in Brittany
When we arrived at Fougère, we took William and Rebecca's advice and went to find a café that served Galettes Bretonne. These delicious, thin, buckwheat flour pancakes are served with various toppings. I had one with pomme frites and an oil sauce, which strengthed my belief that the french serve fries with almost everything. Eric was more adventurous and had various cheeses and vegetables. I made him share.
We each had a glass of Bolee with our lunch. Bolee is a tasty hard cider. We tried it in pear and apple. We liked it so much that we brought a bottle home with a few bottles of wine. We have been enjoying ouour french beverages during special occasions throughout the year.

Across from the restaurant was the remains of part of the wall that surrounded this fortified town.
After lunch, Eric and I spent went into the medieval castle. We had a so much fun running up and down the towers of Fougère. We went to towers opposite each other to take pictures. The whole place was so interesting to see and the views were amazing, Several hours went by without us even noticing.
Incredibly thick walls
One thing that amazed me about Fougère was the thickness of the walls. I guess that though I assumed that fortified walls were thick, I never understood how thick. You can see this when goint into the arrow slits.
Late!
We were so interested in Fougère that we lost track of time. We realized that it was time to go when we looked down from the tower to see our tour group meeting in front of the bus. William had a rule that if you were five minutes late, you had to sing and ten minutes late included a dance. Our group was yelling at us to choose our song. We made it all of the way to the bus (top bus in picture) in five minutes and escaped punishment!
